Tariff Talk

I would like to address something which isn’t a fun topic but you have all heard about: the new tariffs. This is the situation as of today, May 2, 2025. It is constantly evolving.
We have seen quite a bit of change just in the past few weeks. Some companies have announced that they will pass the tariffs related to their imports/exports on to us. Circulo for example has raised their prices 10%. Malabrigo has settled on just 3%. In other situations it is more difficult to predict. Currently there is a 145% tariff on all goods from China with some exceptions. In addition there is a 25% steel/aluminum tariff. This applies in addition to the other tariffs for that country. So for example, steel and aluminum products from Canada are currently taxed at 50% (25 x 2). For China, it would be 170%.
ChiaoGoo needles are made in China. This situation is changing day to day and yesterday we learned that ChiaoGoo was raising their prices 15% independent of the tariffs.
Although nothing is predictable, it seems very likely that ChiaoGoo needles will not be available when they run out of their current stock (the supplier). To increase prices by 170% (plus the 15%) would mean that the needle kits would be as much as $600 (compared to a current price of $215). We have stocked up as much as we can on these needles so if you are considering buying a set, now would be a good time. Or just replenishing your open stock.
Yarn is a bit trickier. Prices are going up and inconsistently. We don’t import any yarn from China and I’m not sure our suppliers do either. But a 10% increase for some brands will be likely. We are doing our best to keep prices lower. For example, we are not planning on increasing our prices for Malabrigo.
We will try to keep you informed as this situation evolves. Thanks as always for your support.
